A Hospitality Success Story: Masana
Through VIDA I, we acquired 17 villas and 3 commercial units at Villas d’Agua, a 52-villa clifftop resort in Olhos d’Água, plus 16 units in the rental pool, and renovated them. What was once an overlooked asset is now a fully repositioned destination under our Masana brand.
Today, Masana Algarve has been integrated into the Hyatt portfolio, marking the Destination by Hyatt brand’s debut in Portugal and reinforcing the asset’s institutional quality and global positioning.

Maria Alvarez Garcia is a Partner at VIDA Advisors, where she oversees tax, legal, structuring, and fundraising.
She previously co-founded a €250M platform and worked at Macquarie Bank, Barclays, and Freshfields in Madrid.
Maria also specializes in delta one trading and holds degrees in Economics, Finance, and Law from Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
Board Member and major shareholder at Refundos Explorer.
Joined Explorer Investments in 2012, leading the Discovery Fund and, since 2017, overseeing the real estate division including EREF I and Penha Longa.
Previously founded CBRE Portugal in 1988 after starting at CBRE Madrid in 1987, managing the Portuguese operation until 2012. Supervised €1.5B+ in commercial real estate transactions and managed funds like Selecta and Fundo Primeiro Imobiliário (now Square AM).
Served as Board Member of Neoturis, chaired ACAI, and was part of RICS Portugal, helping align academic programs with RICS standards. Holds a degree in Systems Engineering and a Master’s in Finance from ISCTE-INDEG. Fellow of RICS and CMVM-certified appraiser.

Previously led real estate investment and fund management across IPG/Colliers, Finibanco, Banif Group, and Silvip, reaching over €1.5B in AuM across Portugal, Central Europe, Brazil, and the U.S. He has authored several works on real estate investment and is a frequent speaker at industry events.
Holds a degree in Business Management (ISCTE-INDEG), postgraduates in Banking and Real Estate Investment, and completed the Senior Management Program at AESE/IESE.
Partner at Refundos Explorer and CEO of Refundos, where he led the development of the Maxirent Real Estate Fund.
He spent over 15 years with the Queiroz Pereira Family Group, managing and advising a €350M+ real estate portfolio.
Previously worked as a construction and structural engineer at Teixeira Duarte and STA.
He is a professor at ISCTE, Executive Board Member of APFIPP, vice-chair of Portugal’s National Council, and a member of ULI.
He holds a Civil Engineering degree (IST), a postgrad in Real Estate Appraisal (ESAI), and an Executive MBA (AESE/IESE).
José Covas is CIO at VIDA Advisors, leading sourcing, investment, and disinvestments. He is also CEO of Iniciativability, a Portuguese family office and advisory firm.
With nearly 30 years in real estate, José has led valuation and advisory teams at firms like Colliers and Cushman & Wakefield, and co-founded Aura REE.
He teaches in top MBA programs and holds leadership roles in international valuation standards.
